Junior Jiu-Jitsu is a development program for kids aged 8 to 12 years
old. Students that do Jiu-jitsu find improvements in Self-confidence
and problem solving through improving athletic abilities like
coordination, fine motor skills and learning fundamental self-defence
concepts that will stick with them.
Through games and movement, kids build confidence while developing balance, posture, and coordination.
Classes are structured to encourage participation, effort, and positive behaviour in a fun, respectful environment.
Children learn basic self-defence, anti-bullying strategies, and how to stay safe using age-appropriate techniques.
From ninja-style obstacle courses to earning skill badges, kids stay active while working toward clear, exciting goals.
Junior Jiu-Jitsu is a hands-on, grappling-based class for kids aged 8 to 12. It focuses on real self-defense through techniques like sweeping, pinning, escaping, and controlling an opponent. There is no punching or kicking. It is all about leverage, positioning, and problem-solving on the ground.
Yes. This class is a natural next step up from our Kids Jiu-Jitsu program. Students progress into this group when they are ready for more focused training and partner work. We make sure they are prepared and supported.
This is a no gi class. That means no heavy uniforms to wash or expensive gis to grow out of. Kids train in shorts and a rash guard, which keeps things simple, clean, and practical.
We use a belt and stripe system to show progress. As students learn and demonstrate new skills, they earn stripes and move up through belt levels. It gives them clear goals to work toward and rewards consistency and effort.
Yes. We focus heavily on control, technique, and safety. Classes are closely supervised with structured drills and guided rolling. Students learn to move with control and respect, not strength or aggression. Although we train very sensibly, accidents can happen, and all of our staff are trained in senior first aid.
Definitely. The structured routines, interactive drills, and clear expectations work really well for kids with ADHD or ASD. It gives them a consistent outlet, improves focus, and builds confidence in a supportive environment.
Yes. In fact, many kids do both. One is focused on stand-up, the other on ground skills. Together, they give kids a full understanding of martial arts and help them become well-rounded, confident, and capable.
Of course. Many parents sit nearby and watch the class. It is a great way to support your child and stay involved in their progress.
A mouth guard is handy, just in case. Kids can wear a rash guard and stretchy jiu-jitsu shorts, which we sell at the front desk. We stock everything you need at the Double Dragon shop. To start out, a t-shirt and comfy shorts are totally fine too. Ask us about our trial options and we can help you get started with no pressure.
